Adult Vocational Training (AVT) Program:

A letter from the Mustard Seed by: Natalie Davis Volunteer Coordinator

Let me start by saying you ( The Adult Vocational Training program) all are GREAT! .  I’m sure that I speak for our whole team when I say that, we’re beyond grateful for the time that your clients have spent at volunteering at our organization.

OCA has volunteered in our thrift department sorting clothing, maintaining our endless supply of hangers and helping us stay organized for our clients. Thank you just doesn’t seem like enough for all their hard work, dedication to projects and enthusiasm to help in any way.

Please share our appreciation with your staff, clients and their families. You all at OCA are doing a great job, and we look forward to having your organization involved at TMS for years to come.

Thank you so much for your enthusiasm in working towards the important goals of the vocational program. The work does pay off, and that can be so hard to believe when we watch our kids sometimes, wondering how much they can learn. Despite our doubts, it's great how much they've proven us wrong over their precious lives.

With Bianca in particular, I'm seeing a lot of growth in areas where I never thought it could happen. Lately, her connection to the world around her is so much better. When the family is in the kitchen, she follows all the activity much more attentively, she puts things away and brings extra plates to the table when she realizes we need them, with or without request! She is also not stealing food like she used to do in the past, which was always difficult.-Jenny Longhi

Special Olympics:

Olivia has enjoyed this experience so much that she want to know how she can help with coaching. I hope her schedules allow her to do it because she is so genuinely happy when she is working with these kiddos." - Beth Marincov- Olivia's mom-

"I can't believe Ivan is really playing soccer, tee ball and basketball.  We never thought he could do this" - Beni Negron

Summer Camp:

OCA came into our lives when we were in a transition time with Harris. OCA changed everything for him/us. Not only has OCA been an outlet for Harris, but it has also given my older typical kids an opportunity to get involved with an amazing organization. Silvia Haas is such an inspiration to all parents struggling for a typical life with special children. Sports, social functions, camps, over nights, and adult services, OCA covers all areas of a "normal" life. Thank you OCA! Townsend McLean

"He loves everything!!! We love the fact that our son is active and engaged in a camp that he loves, doing activities that regular kids do at camp!! The staff, volunteers, everyone of all ages gave my child the opportunity to be himself and treated him very special." - Theresa and Richard Campbell

"Thank you for giving Paul the confidence he needed. He can now swim on his own without any fear. You and your team are the greatest!" - Joseph and Lucy Thairu

"Henry is sooo sorry he can't be with you all tomorrow but he LOVED being at camp...baby!!!" -Tim Bass

"I would like to thank everyone involved in making this an incredible camp experience for Luke, you all ROCK!!" Patrice- Luke's Mom

After the Dance:

"Meghan literally wouldn't take her dress off. Then when she woke up Sunday, she wore it again. Then when she got out of the bath Sunday night, she tried to put it on again.  Maddie walked around the entire weekend signing KC and the Sunshine Band songs. You guys rock!!" -Matt Hayes
